AWD vs 4WD

AWD vs 4WD   Since we have had a few winter storms this year we have noticed an uptick in a very important question: What is the difference between AWD and 4WD? AWD: This is a function that powers the front and rear wheels. There are 2 different kinds of AWD full time and part time. Full time is when your vehicle is always in AWD and Part time is when your vehicle automatically goes into AWD when traction is needed. One of the best parts of AWD is that the driver does not need to make a decision about engaging the system. AWD works well in a range of conditions including rain and snow.   We checked out AWD, lets dig a little deeper into 4WD: Generally found in pickup trucks and larger SUV's (but not always) it is the more traditional system for driving using all 4 wheels. Just like with AWD, 4WD is designed to send torque to all four wheels to increase traction in less than stellar road conditions. However the 4WD is considered to be more robust and can handle much more rugged terrain. Many 4WD have low and high systems that can be selected by the driver. Low is to create more traction in an off road environment while high helps create traction for snowy, rainy, etc. Conditions.   When asking “which is better” there really is no answer, it really depends on your specific needs/wants out of your vehicle. Both AWD and 4WD provide better handling in inclement weather. While AWD will certainly keep you on safe on the roads in any conditions 4WD can certainly be more efficient for off road thrill seekers and for someone who have heavy hauls for job sites. The choice is yours! What would you choose?

brake service

Experience Professional Brake Service at Flaherty Chevrolet in Brandenburg, KY

Your vehicle’s braking system is one of its most important safety features. Whether you drive a Chevrolet car, truck, or SUV, properly functioning brakes are essential for confident stopping power in everyday traffic, sudden stops, and challenging road conditions. At Flaherty Chevrolet in Brandenburg, Kentucky, our Chevrolet Certified Service team provides expert brake inspections, maintenance, and repairs designed to keep you and your passengers safe on every drive. Why Brake Service Matters Every time you press the brake pedal, multiple components work together to slow and stop your vehicle. Brake pads create friction against the rotors, while calipers and hydraulic brake fluid help deliver the force needed to bring your vehicle to a safe stop. Over time, these components naturally wear down due to heat, friction, and regular use. When brake parts begin to wear, stopping distances may increase and overall braking performance can decline. Ignoring early warning signs can lead to more serious damage, including worn rotors or brake system failure. Routine brake service helps ensure your Chevrolet continues to deliver reliable stopping power when you need it most. more Warning Signs Your Brakes Need Attention Your vehicle often provides clear signals when brake service is needed. Recognizing these symptoms early can help prevent more expensive repairs and improve safety on the road. Common warning signs include squeaking or squealing sounds when braking, which often indicate worn brake pads. A grinding noise may suggest the pads are fully worn down and metal components are contacting the rotors. Drivers may also notice a vibrating or pulsating brake pedal, which can be a sign of warped rotors or uneven wear. Other indicators include a soft or spongy brake pedal, longer stopping distances, or a brake warning light on the dashboard. If you experience any of these issues, it is important to schedule a brake inspection as soon as possible. What Happens During a Brake Inspection At Flaherty Chevrolet, a brake service appointment includes a detailed inspection of your entire braking system. Our technicians examine brake pads, rotors, calipers, and brake lines for wear, damage, or leaks. Brake pad thickness is measured to determine whether replacement is needed, and rotor condition is evaluated for scoring, warping, or uneven wear. Brake fluid levels and condition are also checked, since contaminated or low fluid can impact braking performance. If necessary, our team will recommend repairs using Chevrolet-approved parts designed specifically for your vehicle. How Often Should You Have Your Brakes Serviced Brake service intervals can vary depending on driving habits, road conditions, and vehicle type. In general, it is recommended to have your brakes inspected every 6,000 to 10,000 miles or at least once a year. Many drivers choose to have their brakes checked during routine oil changes to stay ahead of potential issues. Frequent city driving, towing, or stop-and-go traffic can increase brake wear, meaning inspections may be needed more often. Staying proactive with maintenance helps extend the life of your braking system and improves overall driving safety. oil change

Keep Your Chevrolet Running Strong With an Oil Change at Flaherty Chevrolet in Brandenburg, KY

Routine maintenance plays an important role in keeping your car, truck, or SUV ready for daily travel. One of the most essential services is a timely oil change. Fresh motor oil helps lubricate moving engine components, manage operating temperatures, and reduce the buildup of harmful deposits. At Flaherty Chevrolet in Brandenburg, Kentucky, our Chevrolet Certified Service experts can provide the oil and professional care your vehicle requires. Why Regular Oil Changes Matter Your engine contains many moving components that work together whenever your vehicle is running. Motor oil creates a protective layer between these parts, helping reduce friction and unnecessary wear. Over time, heat, contaminants, and normal engine operation can cause oil to become less effective. Driving with dirty, degraded, or insufficient oil can place additional stress on the engine. Routine oil and filter changes help maintain proper lubrication while removing contaminants captured during operation. Staying current with this straightforward maintenance service can support reliable performance during commutes, errands, road trips, and everyday drives around Brandenburg. more Know When Your Vehicle Needs an Oil Change There is no single oil-change schedule that applies to every vehicle. Your recommended maintenance interval can depend on your model, engine, oil type, mileage, driving habits, and road conditions. Frequent short trips, towing, extended idling, or driving in severe temperatures may also affect how quickly your oil needs attention. Many newer Chevrolet vehicles include the GM Oil Life System. This technology monitors operating conditions and estimates the percentage of useful oil life remaining. When your dashboard displays a change-engine-oil message, it is time to arrange service. Your owner’s manual also provides maintenance guidance specifically developed for your model. Drivers should continue checking their engine oil level between appointments, even when their vehicle includes an Oil Life System. Warning lights, unusual engine noises, visible leaks, or a burning-oil smell should receive prompt attention from a qualified technician. The Right Oil for Your Chevrolet Choosing the proper oil involves more than selecting a familiar brand. Different Chevrolet engines may require specific oil viscosities, grades, capacities, or performance standards. Using oil that does not meet your vehicle’s requirements could affect lubrication and engine performance. The Chevrolet Certified Service experts at Flaherty Chevrolet can identify the correct oil for your car, truck, or SUV. Depending on your vehicle, available options may include ACDelco Gold Conventional Engine Oil, ACDelco GM Original Equipment dexos1 Full Synthetic Engine Oil, or Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Engine Oil. Full synthetic oil is engineered to provide consistent protection across a broad range of temperatures and operating conditions. However, the best option is always the oil specified for your particular vehicle. Our team can review your Chevrolet’s requirements and help ensure the correct oil and filter are used during service. More Than Fresh Motor Oil An oil-change appointment also creates an opportunity to check other important vehicle components. During a participating multi-point vehicle inspection, a Chevrolet Certified Service technician may evaluate your remaining oil life, tire condition, fluid levels, brakes, battery connections, wiper blades, and other visible components. These checks can help identify maintenance concerns before they become more inconvenient. A technician may notice uneven tire wear, low fluid levels, worn wiper blades, battery corrosion, or visible leaks while your vehicle is already in the service bay. Addressing these concerns early can help you plan future maintenance and keep your Chevrolet prepared for the road ahead. Chevrolet Certified Service You Can Trust Chevrolet vehicles are designed with model-specific systems, components, and maintenance requirements.
