Summer is coming!
- Check your air pressure and remove winter tires.
- Don’t risk wearing out your winter tires if you have them, change them out for Summer or all-season tires instead.
- Check your AC system
- The last thing you want is for your AC to go out mid Summer and possibly have to wait a week for an appointment to get it in the shop. Stay ahead of it and have you AC looked over before the hot months hit.
- Perform an under the hood check
- Be sure to check the:
- Battery
- Oil
- Coolant
- Brake fluid
- Wash and wax your vehicle
- Road salt is a key reason for your vehicle rust and it is hard on the clear coat as well. You want to make sure to really get the undercarriage clean as well. Be sure to get a good coat of wax on there to protect your paint!

Myth Busters!
We have seen many myths about car buying and the entire experience, especially when it comes to buying pre owned!
Myth 1: Used cars are mostly junk.
BUSTED–> Pre owned vehicles are more than old vehicles they account for trade ups, completed leases, and more. Common reasons for a trade in are:
-growing families need something larger
-downsizing
-just looking for something new
💥
Myth 2: Used cars are not safe
BUSTED–> All preowned vehicles at Tony Brown Chevrolet go through an inspection before they are sold.
💥
Myth 3: Used vehicle have poor resale value.
BUSTED–> SUPPLY AND DEMAND. There is a demand NOW for vehicles and is a great time to trade in or even sell.
AWD vs 4WD
AWD vs 4WD
Since we have had a few winter storms this year we have noticed an uptick in a very important question:
What is the difference between AWD and 4WD?
AWD: This is a function that powers the front and rear wheels. There are 2 different kinds of AWD full time and part time. Full time is when your vehicle is always in AWD and Part time is when your vehicle automatically goes into AWD when traction is needed.
One of the best parts of AWD is that the driver does not need to make a decision about engaging the system. AWD works well in a range of conditions including rain and snow.
We checked out AWD, lets dig a little deeper into 4WD:
Generally found in pickup trucks and larger SUV’s (but not always) it is the more traditional system for driving using all 4 wheels. Just like with AWD, 4WD is designed to send torque to all four wheels to increase traction in less than stellar road conditions. However the 4WD is considered to be more robust and can handle much more rugged terrain.
Many 4WD have low and high systems that can be selected by the driver. Low is to create more traction in an off road environment while high helps create traction for snowy, rainy, etc. Conditions.
When asking “which is better” there really is no answer, it really depends on your specific needs/wants out of your vehicle. Both AWD and 4WD provide better handling in inclement weather. While AWD will certainly keep you on safe on the roads in any conditions 4WD can certainly be more efficient for off road thrill seekers and for someone who have heavy hauls for job sites. The choice is yours! What would you choose?
Is your vehicle ready for Summer?
Much like Winter, summer heat can be a tough time for your vehicle. Heat makes your air system work harder, the harsh sun can worsen wear on your hoses and driving belts, and it can expand the air in your tires. Tony Brown Chevrolet is here to help maintain your vehicle during the summer months.
- Wash and wax your vehicle:
-Road salt and grime can really build up during winter travel and those are very harsh on your vehicles clear coat, paint, and especially your undercarriage where it can cause rusting. Summer time is great for a full vehicle detailing to help soften what the weather brings during summer and winter months.
- Check you’re A/C system:
-Chances are during Summer months you did not need to use you’re A/C very much. The best thing to do is to run you’re A/C for a few minutes to ensure that cold is blowing out, while the air is on be very vigilant on any strange noises or odors. Your system may need to be cleaned, have a leak, or need to be recharged. Tony Brown Chevrolet can help you with any of your A/C needs!
- Inspect wiper blades and wiper fluid:
-We all know how de-icing can wear down your wiper blades. Now is a great time to check them and make sure they do not need to be replaced. Run the wipers with your wiper fluid to ensure they do not leave behind streaks.
- under the hood check:
-Battery: Check for Corrosion
-Oil: Check to make sure it does not need changing.
-Coolant: Check the level and condition. You want clear and not cloudy.
-Brake Fluid: Check to make sure it does not need to be topped off or that no leaking has occurred.

Tips for Driving in Snowy Conditions
It can be stressful to drive in snowy conditions, especially if you are not use to them. Tony Brown Chevrolet is here to help and give you tips to help ease the anxiety.
- DO NOT stomp on the brakes if you slide.
Locking up your breaks when slide could make it worse. The best thing to do is to take your foot off the gas and try to control the steering wheel without over correcting.
- Drive at an appropriate speed.
Don’t be afraid to drive a little slower on your morning commute especially on roads that may not have salt or rocks down.
- Accelerate and Decelerate slowly.
Apply gas slowly to regain traction and avoid skids, do not try to move in a hurry. Also take your time when coming to a stop. It will take more time to slow when the roads are icy.
- Know your brakes
It may be time to get your breaks checked or have no ones installed. Consult with us and we can help!
Tips for Buying your car
1. Needs vs. Wants
– It is easy to get lost in the things you want in your new vehicle instead of staying focuses on what you need. There are various reasons to buy a new vehicle. Maybe you need something a bit bigger, lower your payments, or maybe it is just time for something new. Make sure your new vehicle fits what you wanted to accomplish first.
2. Choosing your dealership
– Check out your dealers website and social pages. You can tell a lot by your dealers social pages. What kind of content do they have? Does it feel personal? Do they give back to the community? Utilize more than just a facebook page, google listings can also be helpful as dealers can add photos, posts, special offers etc. Take a look at reviews as well, reviews can help you learn about their sales team and also the service department.
3. In person shopping
– Online research is a great tool when you begin your vehicle shopping experience. However, there is no better research than getting behind the wheel and taking it for a spin. Once you see your vehicle of choice in person it may solidify that it is the correct choice for you or that it is not. If it is not your product specialist will be there to help you make an informed decision that works best for you.
4. Down payments/trade in
– In order to get where you want to be monthly you may need to have a down payment or a trade in. In order to get the most for your trade in make sure your current vehicle has had regular oil changes, cleaned, and if possible has some equity in it. The other option is to have a down payment. If you want to have a nice down payment begin your savings plan much earlier before you begin shopping. In some cases banks require a down payment. A great time to think about putting a down payment is around tax season. You will see dealers having sales during the tax months as well.
Keeping your Vehicle at its Peak
- Keep the Exterior Clean
–Keep the exterior clean by washing and waxing on a regular basis. Ensuring all dirt, sand, salt etc. is off your vehicle protects the clear coat finish from harsh weather conditions. A good tip is to wax at least twice a year in order to protect your exterior from the harsh summer heat and the winter storms. Most importantly be sure to spray the underneath of your vehicle. Mud and Salt are leading causes for rust.
- Keep up with Scheduled Maintenance
–If you do not change your oil after the scheduled time (depending on miles or timeline) your vehicle will still run, but at what possible cost? Getting a regular oil change costs a lot less than replacing an engine. To keep it at its peak performance ask our service department about checking other fluids including: coolant, transmission, brake etc.
https://www.flahertychevrolet.com/service.aspx
- Allow your vehicles engine to warm up
–You may think that you will need minutes for this to take place, but in reality you only need about 30 seconds once you turn the vehicle on to allow the engine and oil to warm up.
- Do not drive on low tire pressure.
–Low tire pressure is something that needs to be fixed sooner rather than later. Driving on low tire pressure diminishes the life of your tires and can also affect your rims if it is too low. Tires are essential, treat them as so.
